2011-2012 Writers & Readers Series at the Cleveland Public Library

The inaugural "Sunday Afternoons with Readers and Writers" event was held on February 27, 2000, and featured actor, writer, and political activist Ossie Davis. Mr. Davis and his wife, Cleveland native Ruby Dee, were to appear together to talk about their bestselling book, With Ossie and Ruby: In This Life Together, but Ms. Dee had broken her ankle and was unable to make the trip. Fortunately, Mr. Davis decided "the show must go on" and delivered a rousing talk to a standing-room only crowd of over 400 enthusiastic Greater Clevelanders.

Since then, the series has played host to more than 50 of the world's most famous novelists, poets, historians, journalists and nonfiction writers. Cleveland Public Library has presented an exciting, diverse array of writers including Margaret Atwood, Jim Harrison, Nikki Giovanni, Walter Mosley, Maxine Hong Kingston, Robert Pinsky, Sister Souljah, Alice Hoffman, Isabel Allende, Luis Rodriguez, Khaled Hosseini, Geraldine Brooks, Rita Dove, Ha Jin, Sherman Alexie, and many others.

This year's schedule of top-notch authors promises to continue this proud tradition.
