In September 2010, syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage and his husband, Terry Miller, created a YouTube video to reach out to young LGBT youth facing bullying, despair and thoughts of suicide. They wanted to create a personal way for supporters everywhere to tell LGBT youth that, yes, it does indeed get better. Since 2010, the It Gets Better Project™ has become a worldwide movement, inspiring more than 50,000 user-created videos viewed more than 50 million times.
ItGetsBetter.org is a place where LGBT young people can see that love and happiness can be a reality in their future, where straight allies can visit and support friends and family members, where people can share their stories, take the It Gets Better Project pledge, and watch videos of love and support.
Savage is the author of It Gets Better: Coming Out, Overcoming Bullying and Creating a Life Worth Living, American Savage, The Commitment and The Kid which was recently adapted for an off-Broadway production and optioned for film.
This event is offered in partnership with the 2014 Gay Games presented by the Cleveland Foundation.
