The Cleveland Public Library is home to the world’s largest chess and checkers collection, know as the John G. White Chess and Checkers Collection. This comprehensive collection documents the history, development, and technical aspects of the games and maintains records of competitions, tournaments, and players. The Chess and Checkers Collection has no geographic or period limitations, collects in many different languages and in all practical formats. The collection welcomes visitors from all over the world to Cleveland who come to study our unique collection.
The Special Collections Department is participating in this year’s Winterfest celebration by decorating a wreath in honor of the John G. White Chess Collection to be put on display in Positively Cleveland’s visitor center on Public Square.
Please stop into the Positively Cleveland Visitor Center during the Winterfest 2010 festivities to see the wreath and buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win this or one of the 24 other holiday wreaths on display. The wreaths will be on display from November 27th – December 10th. The hours of are Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm.
