Starting already in 2009, Cleveland Public Library leadership started looking forward to all the changes that were about to happen in downtown Cleveland with the idea that the Library could be positioned as a center of activity and learning in the 21st century; better connect to the surrounding downtown development projects; and attract additional residents, downtown workers, tourists and visitors as a result of its newly reorganized interior and more welcoming exterior. In 2011, the planning that had been taking shape over the past two years resulted in numerous structural changes.
