Before he became a writer, he worked as an educator, broadcaster, advertising manager, sales manager, announcer, account executive, and translator (more detailed information on his career is available from the "Contemporary Authors Online" database from Gale Research Inc.). He also taught fiction in the City Colleges of Chicago. Underlining the extravagence of his careers, he was an editor for Hospitality, a restaurant trade magazine.

In addition to his real name, Paul H. Little, he also published under several pseudonyms: Hugo Paul, Marie de Journlet, Leigh Franklin James, Paula Minton, Kenneth Harding and Sylvia Sharon, etc.  He is regarded as a chess expert having contributed articles on the game to chess periodicals as well as hotel and restaurant trade publications.

Paul H. Little was the son of Israel Isaac (a linen merchant) Little and Ida Marie (Demont) Litwinsky. He married Helen Mary McGrew (a teacher and designer) on April 3, 1941. The couple had no children.
